Nick Pappas Signs With Asheboro Copperheads

Nick Pappas became the most recent Tiger to sign a summer league contact, joining a great group of players on the Asheboro Copperheads. The Copperheads are a member of the prestigious Coastal Plains League located in the Carolinas. Pappas will be the first Tiger since former Tiger Nick Vera to play in the CPL. Pappas is currently hitting .313 with 1 HR and 2 triples for the Tigers.

Ben Klimesh Dominates in Win over UMHB

Coming off the heels of a great pitching performance that garnered Mike Panozzo SCAC POTW honors, Ben Klimesh made a statement of his own. Ben threw a complete-game shutout with 9 strikeouts in yesterdays win over Mary Hardin Baylor. Great to see the Tiger pitchers one-upping each other.

Mike Panozzo Wins SCAC Pitcher of the Week Honors

Jr. P Mike Panozzo of Clear Lake HS in Houston, TX won the SCAC POTW award for the opening week of the 2010 season. Congrats, Mike!

Panozzo, Soloman Sign Summer League Contracts

Mike Panozzo and Noah Soloman, both Junior pitchers, signed contracts today to join the Deland Suns of the Florida Collegiate League. Both pitchers are excited to join the Suns and continue their summer league experience. Panozzo pitched in the Cape Cod League this past summer before joining the NYCBL, while Soloman pitched in the Cal Ripken Senior League. Soloman and Panozzo both pitched very well in the opening weekend against Schreiner and are important pieces to the weekend rotation for the Tigers. Congrats to both pitchers!

Tigers Take Opening Weekend

After a disappointing end to the day on Saturday, it was great to see the Tigers bounce back and take the deciding game of the weekend series, especially being on the road. With a young team, early wins are all good wins, even the ugly ones. Mike Panozzo and Kyle Felix (left) led the way for the Tigers, bringing some much needed upperclass leadership to a critical early-season game. Panozzo pitched beautifully, striking out 8 over 7 innings while allowing 2 runs, both unearned. Felix was 4-5 at the plate and turned in another terrific effort behind the plate, limiting Schreiner on the basepaths and handling balls in the dirt.

Tomorrow's game against a solid UMHB team will be a tough test for the Tigers. Coach Micah Wells always prepares his teams well, and the trip to Belton is no easy task. Game time is 2 pm tomorrow before the Tigers return home for a SCAC battle vs. Austin College this weekend.

TIgers Split Opening Day vs. Schreiner

The 2010 Season is underway, and although the team would have loved a sweep, they will have to settle with an opening day split against the Schreiner Mountaineers. Noah Solomon got the win in game 1, exiting in the 5th inning after pitching beautifully as the opening-day starter. The Tigers ended up slugging their way to a 15-10 victory. Evan Jones and Kyle Felix both proved why they have gotten the attention they have, squaring up ball after ball all day long. Felix also did a great job behind the plate. Coach Zach Fregosi had this to say about Kyle after tonight's game: "Kyle did exactly what we need him to do. He handled pitches, blocked, and kept the running game to a minimum. If he can continue on that path, the pitching staff will only get better and more comfortable throwing to him."

The Tigers suffered a scare in the first game when Evan Jones rolled his ankle on a play at first base. He continued to play the rest of the day, and his status for todays game at Schreiner is probable. Trinity squares off for the conclusion of the 3-game set today at Schreiner at 1 pm, sending Jr. Mike Panozzo to the bump.
